Specialist Home Care in the North West

The North West has plenty of home care providers, particularly around Manchester and Liverpool. But if someone has complex health conditions, standard domiciliary care often isn’t enough. Finding quality care professionals with clinical expertise can be extremely challenging, particularly in more rural areas such as the Ribble Valley or the Lake District.

At Active Assistance, we specialise in supporting individuals with complex needs in their own homes. Our focus goes beyond delivering care safely. We help each person maintain their independence, rebuild confidence, and live as fully as possible in their own surroundings.

From Cheshire villages such as Alderley Edge, Wilmslow and Prestbury to coastal towns like Formby and Lytham St Annes, we support people in a wide range of settings - from city apartments to suburban homes and rural properties.

Complex and Specialist Care at Home

Our expertise lies in supporting individuals with complex, long-term and high-dependency needs - delivering care that goes beyond standard home care services.

We regularly support people living with:

  • Brain and spinal cord injuries, including acquired and traumatic brain injury
  • Neurological and neurodegenerative conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and MND
  • Respiratory and ventilation needs, including tracheostomy and assisted ventilation
  • Complex physical disabilities requiring ongoing clinical input
  • Learning disabilities and associated health needs

We also support individuals in situations where care needs are evolving or more intensive, including:

  • Transitioning home following hospital discharge or rehabilitation
  • Continuing rehabilitation within the home environment
  • Requiring 24-hour or live-in care
  • Managing cognitive or behavioural changes

Each care package is designed to support both clinical and day-to-day needs, helping individuals live as independently and confidently as possible at home

Supporting Individuals Across the North West

With the right support in place, home can become a place of progress and stability.

We have supported individuals across the North West to rebuild their independence following life-changing conditions - from returning home after prolonged hospital stays to re-establishing everyday routines and reconnecting with their communities.

They have made such a difference to our lives – we are very grateful that she is so well supported.

Yes. Active Assistance specialise in supporting individuals whose needs go beyond standard home care, including those requiring ongoing clinical input, coordinated care packages, or specialist expertise.

This can include situations where care involves multiple elements - such as managing physical health needs alongside cognitive or behavioural changes, or supporting individuals whose needs are evolving following illness, injury or treatment.

Our role is to bring these elements together into a single, well-structured care plan - ensuring support is consistent, safe, and able to adapt over time. Where appropriate, we also work alongside other professionals involved in the individual’s care to maintain a joined-up approach.

Yes. Live-in care is available across the North West, from Cheshire and Greater Manchester to the Ribble Valley and the Lake District. A dedicated carer lives in the home and provides around-the-clock support, with clinical oversight from our nursing team.

Yes. Our services are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England.

This means our care is regularly assessed against national standards for safety, quality and effectiveness. It also provides reassurance that our teams follow established clinical and governance frameworks when delivering care in the home.

For families, CQC regulation offers an additional level of confidence, particularly when arranging care in more complex or high-dependency situations.

Your first conversation doesn't need to be a commitment to care.

We will take time to understand your situation, answer any initial questions and discuss the support you may need. From there, we can arrange an assessment and recommend a care plan tailored to the individual.

For many families, that initial conversation provides valuable clarity and reassurance at a time when there can be a lot of uncertainty.

Funding arrangements vary depending on individual circumstances.

Care may be funded privately, through an insurance or personal injury settlement, or via NHS or local authority funding pathways. Our team can talk you through the options available and help you understand what may be appropriate in your situation.
